It takes some heroic potential to watch certain movies and that holds true for Wolfman. Starring Benicio Del Toro, Wolfman is a shameless rip off the 1941 classic ‘Werewolf’. The plot is set in 1891 wherein Lawrence Tablot (played by Benicio Del Toro) returns to his family estate to inspect his brother’s death by the mysterious creature from the woods. Unfortunately, one nigh he pursues the Mysterious creature only to realize that he has been cursed and would transform into a Werewolf every Full moon.
Despite a brawny cast (Anthony Hopkins plays as Benicio’s father and Emily Blunt as his brother’s fiancĂ©e), good camera work and gloomy settings, Wolfman is not an edge-of-the-seat thriller and gets mind-numbing and predictable as it saunters along its course. Apart from a scene in the mental Asylum where the Toro’s character strapped in the chair transforms in to a werewolf in a packed room, there aren’t too many bone-chilling, hair-raising moments. The secret of Toro’s father being a beast himself is revealed half way through the film, that splinters any mystery and the climax is utter ridiculous.
I would rate this film as a poor watch. Better do your nails over the weekend than watch this B-graded ‘so called’ thriller.
very true...my rating would be 6/10
