Its time!!! Indian Premiere League instigates….

This weekend the third season of the Indian premier league kicked off in dazzling style at the Dr. DY Patil sports Academy, Navi Mumbai; where the defending champions Deccan Chargers take on the ghastly Kolkata Knight Riders. After a forgettable, lack-luster performance last year; Ganguly’s men along with the man himself will be desperate to make an impression in the third edition of Indian Premier League.

The inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League was won by the ‘Rajasthan royals’ under the leadership of the great Leggie Shane Warne. Tagged underdogs; Shane Warne lead the team to glory with his unimpeachable leadership skills transforming a group of wanna-be’s into a clan of champions. The second edition of the Indian Premier League saw a similar state of affairs where the Deccan’s boys saw a leader in the charismatic, awe-inspiring, swash-buckler Adam Gilchrist. Who can forget the astonishing 35 ball 85 in the semi finals where he demolished the tournament favorites ‘Delhi Daredevils’ almost single handedly? With the contracts to be renewed or even re-negotiated for next season; the third edition of the IPL may be another nerve wrecking entertainer. This season also brings the end of era feel to the cricket supporters as their teams might be jumbled for the next season or there is a high probability that their cricketing heroes can hang up their boots for good. Will the likes of Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist, Anil Kumble, and Sourav Ganguly return for another season? Will this season be the last of such cricketing greats is a question to be answered.

Indian Premier League has been a revolution in Indian cricket for many reasons. One reason that stands out is the ample opportunity it provides to the much deserving youngsters, home and abroad. With the 20-20 world cup just weeks away, the IPL provides the much needed opportunity for the likes of Chateshwar Pujara, Ambati Rayadu  and Abhimanyu Mithun to knock at the door of the national selection committee.

Before the third season kicked off, Lalit Modi bragged that the IPL will be bigger than the NFL, the NBA and the English Premier League. Irrespective of the statements by Mr. Modi; the beauty of the Indian premier League is its Unpredictability and let’s hope it will live to its reputation.

V-day Weekend :)

The recent Valentine’s Day weekend was an exhilarating experience. After a long week of bone-chilling temperatures, I decided to spend the weekend in the “Yellowhammer state” with two long time buddies, the two devilish angels: KeerZ and MamZ. Albeit only 200 miles from home, the drive wasn’t an enjoyable one as I was sabotaged by the rain and snow en route to Alabama. Moreover I was very confused as I to how I should react as and when I meet them.

Hold on!! Did I reveal that I have never met these girls before in spite of being friends for four long years? I had mixed emotions bursting through my veins when I reached their apartment complex. Once I reached their apartment, I was received by blissful KeerZ and a funny looking MamZ (she will go gaga over me). All the prickly emotions that haunted me all the way en route vanished into thin air. Almost instantly, I was feeling home!!!!

That night we went out for one crappy movie and then hit the bed. Day two, we had plans to visit the “USS Alabama” a Second World War battle ship. We reached the battle ship by 3pm on Saturday and within moments the two maddening photo fanatics were ready posing for the photographs. The pictures were clicked at every heart beat at every location. It appeared like a celebrity photoshoot than a trip to the antique war veteran. In the midst of the photoshoot, we spend some quality time walking around the deck, exploring the war equipment, the anti air-craft missile launcher, the machine guns, the gadgets and were discussing the lifestyle of the Marine Corps might have led on the ship. The Submarine located at roughly 500 ft from the ship was equally mind-boggling. The walk through the inner chambers of the submarine was awe-inspiring. We got home with some remarkable know-how and later spend a quiet Saturday evening at home. It was late afternoon by the time I woke up and KeerZ has already cooked scrumptious, mouth-watering chicken curry. No wonder why people call her an awe-inspiring cook. After a good lunch, we played poker and I was all set for a long drive back home.

Courtesy my two friends, it was indeed a memorable weekend.

Wolf-man is a waste of time - A review

It takes some heroic potential to watch certain movies and that holds true for Wolfman. Starring Benicio Del Toro, Wolfman is a shameless rip off the 1941 classic ‘Werewolf’. The plot is set in 1891 wherein Lawrence Tablot (played by Benicio Del Toro) returns to his family estate to inspect his brother’s death by the mysterious creature from the woods. Unfortunately, one nigh he pursues the Mysterious creature only to realize that he has been cursed and would transform into a Werewolf every Full moon.

Despite a brawny cast (Anthony Hopkins plays as Benicio’s father and Emily Blunt as his brother’s fiancĂ©e), good camera work and gloomy settings, Wolfman is not an edge-of-the-seat thriller and gets mind-numbing and predictable as it saunters along its course. Apart from a scene in the mental Asylum where the Toro’s character strapped in the chair transforms in to a werewolf in a packed room, there aren’t too many bone-chilling, hair-raising moments. The secret of Toro’s father being a beast himself is revealed half way through the film, that splinters any mystery and the climax is utter ridiculous.

I would rate this film as a poor watch. Better do your nails over the weekend than watch this B-graded ‘so called’ thriller.
